NM Thera is, at its core, all about self care. We offer handmade self care products, from lotions to bath salts. We truly believe that we can improve your “Self Care Sunday” (or your self care everyday, if you’re into that). We have even gone so far as to methodically curate a “Soak and Chill” playlist for your listening pleasure on Spotify! When enjoying a soothing bath soak (or foot soak) sitting in perfect silence with a few candles going can be incredibly soothing. But what about those who would rather have a soundtrack to their soak experience? Our vision was to help ease a frantic mind, to enable the user to really focus-in on their self care. Music has the potential to ease a troubled mind, to energize a tired and exhausted body, to facilitate creative thinking, and to elevate mood. Full disclosure, this blog post was written while listening to NM Thera’s “Soak and Chill” playlist.
The kind folks at NM Thera meticulously curated a playlist full of music to help reduce stress, threw in a few tracks intended to boost mood, and even went so far as to balance Lo-Fi and Binaural beats, for a truly unique listening experience. You may have heard of the growing popularity of Lo-Fi beats and the idea that productivity and focus are greatly increased when listening to them. Many college students swear by Lo-Fi beats as a study tool. A lesser known type of music is known as Binaural Beats.
What are Binaural Beats?
Binaural beats are considered to be a sort of auditory illusion. They are typically between 1 and 30 Hz and are said to create the same brainwave pattern that one would experience during meditation. The tones have to be listened to separately in each ear. So it is recommended that you use headphones or earbuds. Listening on your phone’s built-in speaker won’t cut it (and let’s be honest, music loses so much of its depth when played through a tiny phone speaker.)
Binaural beats are said to:
reduce anxiety
increase focus and concentration
lower stress
increase relaxation
foster positive moods
promote creativity
help manage pain
Becoming a meditative master isn’t easy, by any means. Binaural beats won’t work for everyone, and they aren’t considered a cure for any particular condition. Though, they might offer a perfect escape for those interested in relaxing, sleeping more peacefully, or entering meditative states. When listening to a sound with a certain frequency, your brain will synchronize with that frequency. This process is sometimes referred to as brainwave entrainment therapy. Deep diving into binaural beats can be a rewarding experience. It is best to have an idea of what particular benefit is being sought out. You’ll need to decide which brainwave fits your desired state. In general:
Binaural beats in the delta (1 to 4 Hz) range have been associated with deep sleep and relaxation.
Binaural beats in the theta (4 to 8 Hz) range are linked to REM sleep, reduced anxiety, relaxation, as well as meditative and creative states.
Binaural beats in the alpha frequencies (8 to 13 Hz) are thought to encourage relaxation, decrease anxiety, and promote positivity.
Binaural beats in the lower beta frequencies (14 to 30 Hz) have been linked to increased concentration and alertness, problem solving, and improved memory.
